Dee Ward, our Coventry Foodbank Project Manager, was delighted to welcome some staff from JLR Solihull for a volunteering day.
They spent their day helping us build, extend and plant our Sow to Grow garden. Funded by a grant from The National Garden Scheme, the garden transforms an unused part of our Binley warehouse site from a grey, barbed wired, metal fenced area, into a green space for wildlife to explore and people to engage in the natural world.
The JLR team got hands-on with planting and weeding as well as building and painting planters and a shed.

Want to get hands-on?
The garden has already produced crops including strawberries, tomatoes and corn! The food grown goes out to Coventry foodbank and The Community Pantries, further benefitting people across the Midlands.
seeing the need
Helping in the Sow to Grow garden had a profound impact on the volunteers from JLR. They saw first-hand the work we’re doing, but also heard about the extent of the need.

When they reported back on their volunteering day to JLR, they shared their experience. This led to them reaching out to their employee charitable scheme. They were able to follow up their volunteer support with a £1,000 donation to further our community project.
Every donation changes lives
It was wonderful to receive the donation from JLR Solihull in person. Their team have sown plants that will help people facing food poverty – and the donation is vital seed funding to tackle food poverty over the long term.

We’re so grateful for their generous support!
