In September 2024, CEO Gavin Kibble headed down to Holborn in London to run a rice packing day for 120 staff at Warner Bros’ offices.
Over the course of a day, packing over 4000 meals per hour, they smashed their 20,000 meal packing target!

A day to celebrate
Whenever we do rice packs, there’s always a party atmosphere. Great music, friendly competition, fabulous team relationships and a lot of joy. That’s the beauty of rice packing: it’s so much fun!
It’s so much more than fun, though. We start the day by talking about where the food they’ll be packing is going and the impact it will have. In this case, the meals they packed were heading over to Zimbabwe, where our local partner Elna Mukamuri distributes food to 16 schools across Harare.
Nutrition that lasts a life-time
For the 16,000 children fed through schools in Zimbabwe, this might be their only hot meal of the day. It’s a meal they come to school for. It keeps them in education, keeps them learning and opens up employment opportunities for a future free from poverty. It’s the first step in a better life.
It’s important to start our day with this. We’re not just pointing out the problem of food poverty – we’re getting the team at Warner Bros actively involved in a solution to food poverty.

So the joy, and the fun, of the rice pack doesn’t just come from being faster packers than the team next to you. It comes from knowing that about two weeks later, every box of rice meals they’ve packed will be handed over to Elna, distributed to schools and served into the bowl of a hungry child in Zimbabwe.
There is a tangible connection between the Warner Bros staff in London and the children at school in Zimbabwe.
